The Difficult Path To Finding Your Purpose

Everyone was born for a purpose.

That’s right, even you. You are here for a reason.

There’s something special about you. And you must find out what makes you, you.

You’ll find people out there who will tell you the path to purpose is easy. By following 3 simple steps you can know you purpose and begin living it out.

I’ve found this to be a bunch of bunk. I’m pretty sure you have too.

Finding your purpose isn’t easy.

In reality, this will be one of the hardest things you’ll do.

Forces will come against you. You’ll tell yourself you’re not worth it. You’ll hear others tell you that you’re silly for pursuing what you believe in. You’ll feel crazy because your purpose may seem so far out there.

Hate Your Responsibility?

I was working with my mind numb to the world, hating a process that I normally love. Have you been there? My shoulders were slumped and I was moving like a slug. I was in such a bad mood that the day was moving so slow and an hour felt like a whole day. It was an infectious attitude and my crew members knew to look out. What was wrong?

Don't hate your responsibility!

What changes when we go from loving our job, kids, spouse etc., to hating the responsibility?

I believe it is simple. It all comes down to one thing. What are we thinking about? Next time your attitude gets bad and your effort goes in the toilet, think about what you are thinking about. How are you viewing your current task?

The attitude we need to have is that of I get to do ____. However, what we often think is I have to do ____.

3 Things You Can Do To Deliver Extraordinary Results

There’s really no point in doing what you do unless you can stand out from the pack. To offer something different.

This is where extraordinary results come into play. We can develop methods where we’re consistently delivering value and action-packed results.

If we’re doing everything everyone else is doing, then what’s so special about you? This is the question that needs to be answered. And I think the answer is going to be we need to stop doing what everyone else is doing.

To deliver truly extraordinary results, we’ve got to wade into the abnormal. We’ve got to do something our team or customers are not expecting.

When we do, this blows people away.

So, let’s take a look at 3 things we can do to deliver extraordinary results.

The One Thing You Won’t Find A Formula For

Do you remember your school days? When you were taught the formula for pi, surface area, or how to calculate volume.

We were taught they were absolute. And they are.

Formulas are so ingrained into our psyche that we look for them everywhere. Even success.

I’ve got bad news for you today. There’s no success formula. There’s no way to calculate what’s going to bring success to you and to everyone else.

You won’t be able to find a formula for success.

There’s no easy path to success.

Success will look different for everyone. That’s why we cannot lay down a simple plan or rule that will lead to success.

Instead, there are principles that we can follow that will help, but not guarantee, success.

These success principles include:

Your Work Matters

There are days when we’ll feel down and out about the work we’re doing. Maybe it’s feeling you’re ineffective. Your influence isn’t growing. Or no one is listening.

I know there’s days I feel like this. To be honest, it can feel like a losing battle. But I have a great message for you today.

Your work matters.

Really, it does. More than you’ll ever realize.

Through your leadership and work, you’re touching people others will never be able to reach. I can’t touch everyone. Neither can you.

Yet you can reach the people around you. And that matters.

Work That Mattered To Me

I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Jeff Jones, the former drummer of Big Daddy Weave. He was able to share some of the great things he’s moving onto. To be honest, I’m excited for him and encourage you to check out what he’s doing.
