4 Ways To Deal With Stress

Stress is something every leader will face. Most likely on a daily basis.

Yet so few of us effectively deal with stress. This is a problem!

Stress robs us of our health. Stress affects our relationships. Stress plays games with our minds.

Stress is a killer.

That’s why we need to talk on ways we can deal with stress.

Let me be upfront. Over the past few months my battles with stress haven’t gone too well.

Between searching for a new vehicle to a major ERP upgrade at work to a frustrating iPad repair, there’s been a lot of stress.

My nights have been restless (My wife has said I’m throwing punches in my sleep). Anger has become an issue. I’ve even slipped into gossiping (I’m sorry Matt! I know what you say about gossip).

The Keys To Keep Going When You Don’t Feel Like It

Everybody has a point in their lives when they want to quit. They want to throw in the white towel. They want to tap out like a UFC fighter gasping for air in a choke hold.

While we try to play it off like we’re the first person to experience doubt or dissatisfaction with where we’re at, it’s not true. We’re not the first and we’re not the last.

Since you’re not the first, you know there are people who have gone before you and continued on long after they felt like giving up. They’ve succeeded where they saw no hope before.

That’s because there’s always hope. You can keep moving forward even when it feels like you’ve hit a brick wall.

Fight through it: Our minds can play tricks on us that tell us there’s no hope. It’s better to tap out than to keep fighting.

Where Does Stress Fit In Your Life?

Stress fits into your life

We’ve all heard that before. In fact, we’ve all said that before. There comes a time when life seems to start piling up and we become overwhelmed with all that we have to do. It’s our friends and family who require so much attention, or work that seems to never get quiet, or our own personal demons that constantly push us to try to achieve more than we can. And adding on top of that is our quest to fit our passions in our lives.

Stress is a very real feeling, and I can’t say that it’s completely wrong. We can believe all we want that stress is just a poor coping mechanism, but good luck finding someone who doesn’t feel stressed from time to time.

Will your marriage affect your leadership ability?

When you get married, your focus shifts from yourself to your spouse. It is one of the most important relationships that you will have. Your relationship with your spouse will also affect the quality of your leadership.

In EntreLeadership, Dave Ramsey talks about the spousal interview. During the hiring process Dave will require an interview with the spouse of the prospective employee. He does this to see if the prospect is married to ‘crazy.’ That is someone who makes life miserable, has a bad attitude, or is high maintenance.

Your spouse requires a lot of time and effort. Crazy spouses and bad relationships require even more time and effort.

If you have a crazy spouse it will drain on your leadership skills.

Nagging, bickering, and pettiness will drain your energy.

Your focus will be off. It will be on her and keeping her happy rather than leading to the best of your ability.
