Experience Isn’t Everything

Longtime readers of my website know I have a love of ice climbing. Attempting to climb frozen waterfalls on a chilly day, what could be better? Nothing, in my opinion but yours may differ.

I’ve been climbing every year for the last 6 years. Every year, I feel challenged and invigorated. This year was a little different.

Meet The Experienced Climbers

That’d be me. And a guy named Jason. We’ve been on multiple ice climbing trips over the years. Every year we see improvement in our climbing.

We’ll try to tackle climbs that are 60, 100, or 150 feet high. Vertical, inverted, traversing… We’ll try them and typically conquer them.

The challenge of climbing these ice formations are a blast. They also take a toll. Especially as we get older.

Leadership Lessons And Quotes From Justice League

A Reel Leadership Article

Whenever I hear about a DC Comics movie, I become nervous. They’ve not had the best track record in translating comic books into movies. Though, they have gotten better over the years.

With recent movies like Suicide Squad, Batman Vs. Superman, and Wonder Woman DC Comics is making a name for itself in the comic book to movie world.

Leadership lessons and quotes from Justice League the movie

Walking into Justice League, I was excited yet hesitant. Would the movie critics be right? Or would DC Comics pull off the impossible and have a well-done comic book movie?

Thankfully I found out for you. DC Comics did an amazing job bringing the Justice League to life. Seeing Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa of Baywatch), Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Superman (Henry Cavill) join forces to defeat the coming threat of Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) was amazing.

Iron Sharpens Iron

There’s an interesting verse in the Bible. Proverbs 27:17 tells us that As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

I’ve often pondered over the meaning of this verse.

Blacksmith Shaping Metal

What does iron sharpening iron mean? Does iron sharpen iron simply by being in the presence of other iron?

No, not at all. Iron can’t sharpen iron by being next to each other.

The way iron sharpens iron is through conflict.

How Iron Sharpens Iron

The thought behind Proverbs 27:17 is interesting. Iron can sharpen iron.

But how does that happen?

Iron can only sharpen other iron through conflict. When you hit two pieces of iron together, you can sharpen it.

Why then, as Christians, do we strive to avoid conflict? We flee from conflict like it is the plague.

Yet, we know that the conflict iron faces when they clash, provides sharpening.

Do You Know The Season?

I’m often called odd when I tell someone my favorite book of the Bible. That book? The book of Ecclesiastes.

For some reason, this specific book speaks volumes to me. I think it’s because of the passage found in chapter 3, verses 1-8:

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted…

Things constantly change. Are you prepared?

This scripture is calming, especially in times of trouble. You know what I mean?

Ecclesiastes tells us there are seasons in life. Good seasons, bad seasons, waiting seasons, seasons of reaping, and seasons of death.
