I’ve often written about my love for the outdoors and all the fun activities you can do. These have included ice climbing, running half marathons, and more.
As a leader, it’s important to have a hobby that gets you outside of the office and enjoying the great outdoors. Without a great hobby, it is easy to fall into leadership burnout and loss.
Today, I want to share with you a different kind of article. I am going to share with you about my favorite outdoor store REI.
What Is REI?
REI isn’t your typical outdoor store. REI stands for Recreational Equipment, Inc. REI is organized as a consumers’ co-operative.
This means you have the opportunity to be more than a consumer. You have the opportunity to be a part of REI.
Once you become an REI member, you’re open to new and exciting promotions. There is a gear sale that is only available to REI members. Membership is inexpensive and doesn’t expire.
For a $20 membership fee, you can become a member and save the rest of your life. The membership includes a 10% discount on all purchases.
Plan on spending $200? Your membership is paid for with one purchase!
That’s cool, huh?
More Ways To Save At REI
Their membership program isn’t the only way to save at REI. There are many REI coupons that will save you money.
SlickDeals is a trusted site I’ve gone to for years. They’ve saved me more money than I can count. I use them to find great deals and save money.
You can also save more at REI by checking out their daily deals. There’s always something great for sale there!
What I Plan To Buy At REI
There’s plenty to buy for an outdoor enthusiast at REI. You know I’m an avid ice climber. Almost every year I go to the Upper Pennisula of Michigan and climb frozen waterfalls in Munising.
Ice Climbing is a great getaway and allows me to refresh and recharge. REI is a great place to pick up ice climbing or mountaineering gear. My list this year includes:
- Scarpa Climbing Boots
- Climbing Harness
- Trango Ice Axe
- Petzl Boreo Helmet
- Black Diamond Contact Strap Crampons with ABS Plates
That will pretty much round out my ice climbing gear. It’s expensive but it is worth it.
There’s plenty of other things you can buy at REI. They sell great road bikes, outdoor clothing, and backpacking gear.
The world is at your fingertips when you shop at REI. Take a look, find an adventure, and discover a leadership lesson or two as you explore the outdoors.
