Goals are a desired outcome in the future one might want. This could be getting married, a desired salary, or leading the company to the Fortune 100.
We make things happen when we have goals. They communicate to us where were want to go. The goals we have shouldn’t be vague. Goals need to be concrete (though changeable) and specific.
You don’t want to set a goal of “lose weight.” You can’t track it and you don’t know when you reach the desired outcome.
In this article, we will look at 5 ways to set and achieve goals. These suggestions will help you actually achieve what you desire.
5 Ways To Set And Achieve Goals
Setting and achieving goals doesn’t have to be complicated. You only have to be intentional when setting them. But how do you set goals?
Here are five ways to set goals and achieve what you desire.
Decide what you want:
The first thing in goal setting is to figure out what you want to accomplish. You can’t set a goal without knowing what you want.
Decide on that and then tackle the next step.
Prioritize what you want:
Imagine what you want. Is it a raise? A new job? A new title? There are a lot of things we desire in life. We can’t pursue all of them.
When setting a goal, you have to figure out what you want and then prioritize what goals you will tackle. You have to decide what you’re going to chase.
Write out a list of what you want to accomplish this month, year, or decade. Then place them in a priority queue. You’ll begin by attacking the first thing on the list.
Set deadlines:
You’ve decided what you want and what’s important. Now it’s time to set deadlines for your goals. Some goals will be long-term goals, like paying off your mortgage or retiring early. Other goals will be short-term. You might want to lose 10 pounds in two months or there may be the desire to have a regular date night with your spouse. These are shorter-term goals.
Yet, regardless of whether or not the goals are short or long-term, there have to be deadlines. Set an end date that you think you can hit. Then hit the deadline!
Create reminders:
Why do we miss our goals after we set them? Because we fail to remind ourselves of the goals that we set.
To achieve the goals you set, you have to create reminders. You can use your calendar on your phone, a paper calendar, or you may even go so far as to create visual reminders around the home and office.
Whatever you do, find ways to remind yourself of the goals you’re chasing after. These reminders will keep you on track and headed toward the goal!
Learn to say no:
We all have an innate desire to say yes to doing more things. We later regret the yeses, but they’re there.
These yeses get in the way of us achieving our goals. That’s why you’ve got to learn how to say a very important two-letter word.
NO
Learn to say no. It’s not that you’re trying to let people down, be rude, or trying to discourage someone. Instead, you know the importance of your goal and how a yes to something or someone else can derail your progress.
Learn to say no to the things you don’t have to do so you can chase your goal.
Celebrate Your Achievements
With these five helpful ideas, you can achieve more of your goals on a regular basis. You’ll soon find yourself checking long and short-term goals off your list.
When you do, don’t forget to celebrate your achievements. You’ll have plenty to celebrate.
