The Power Of Your Why

There is something powerful in knowing your why. This is the reason you’re doing what you’re doing. Whether this is why you lead, why you married your high school sweetheart, or why you continue to serve in ministry.

Your why will help push you further and farther than you ever believed possible. Many people witnessed this at the recent 123rd running of the Boston Marathon thanks to Micah Herndon.

Micah served as a Marine in Afghanistan. He was lucky. He survived the brutal hell of war. Sadly, three of his friends did not.

Mark Juarez, Matthew Ballard, and Rupert Hamer all lost their lives in the war in Afghanistan. They didn’t return home alive. They passed in service to their country.

Obsess Over The Right Thing

And it's not your competition

As a business leader, our attention can easily be diverted from the things we should be doing. One of those ways we divert our attention is by obsessing over the wrong things. The biggest wrong thing we focus on is our competition.

We focus on our competition because shifting our focus to them is easy. We constantly hear or see what the competition is doing. This makes us anxious and nervous…

If we’re not obsessed on the right thing.

Why Obsessing On The Competition Is The Wrong Play

I’ve already mentioned why we obsess about the competition. They’re who we see and who we hear about on a daily basis. Seeing them “pull” ahead terrifies us. Yet this doesn’t do us any good.

When we focus on the competition, we’re focusing on an external factor. You and I, we can’t do a thing about the competition. They’re doing their own thing. We need to do our own.

We know that being a good leader can be the difference between whether your business sinks or swims. Owning a business is a monumental task, so cultivating the right leadership strategy is essential if you wish to create a workforce that is with you every step of the way.

Below, we’ve gone into some of the skills you should focus on developing if you wish to steer your company and employees in the right direction.

Being Adaptable

Being adaptable is an essential skill that can help you to change the way you do things ad-hoc. I have had plenty of challenges when trying to combat unfamiliar situations. In time, this becomes easier to do, but more importantly, having a good business plan can help you overcome any tricky situations.

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Hellboy 2019

A Reel Leadership Article

The movie theater has been a great place for those who love comic book movies. Last week, theatergoers were treated to the DC Comics movie Shazam! In two weeks, audiences will be treated to the Avengers: Infinity War sequel Endgame, and this weekend saw the release of Dark Horse Comics Hellboy.

Hellboy is the 3rd Hellboy movie to be released in the theaters. The first two starred a man who nailed the look of Hellboy, Ron Perlman. Sadly, Perlman did not return for the latest entry in the Hellboy series as this is more of a reboot than a sequel.

The Hellboy movie is based upon the Mike Mignola comic books and graphic novels. Hellboy is stuck in a war between the supernatural and human worlds.

While I remember the original Hellboy movies to be a fun, fairly upbeat series of movies, the latest Hellboy movie takes a dark turn. It’s much darker and grittier than the previous movies. This will turn some people off.

Why Great Leaders Extend Grace

I have never met a leader who didn’t need grace extended to them at one point or another. Every leader has failed at some point in their journey. Some harder than others.

I’ve, sadly, seen leaders who have committed some pretty heinous acts. They’ve verbally abused customers, cheated on their spouse, or misappropriated company funds. These leaders needed grace to overcome their past sins.

I’m not sure if you have ever committed any of these leadership faux pauxs. However, I know you’ve had missteps in your leadership. We all have. We’ve all made bad decisions. Because of this, we have needed someone to extend grace to us.

But what about those you lead? Have you been willing to extend grace to those on your team?

We All Mess Up

That’s right. We all mess up. I’ve messed up. You’ve messed up. We’ve all messed up.
