Start Where You’re At

Starting out can be the most difficult part of your journey. I know it was for me.

There was a lot of procrastination that I needed to conquer. A lot of mental objections needed to be met before I could start.

But I finally learned to start where I was at. And you can start where you’re at as well.

While I’d always enjoyed learning about leadership and being in a leadership position, it was tough to take action and call myself a leader. I rarely felt I had the know-how to call myself that.

Then things started to change. My journey began where I was at.

The journey really started in a strange place to me. In a Family Christian Bookstore.

I don’t know why it seems so strange but it does. I guess that’s how some things pan out.

12 Books You Should Add To Your Reading List

Reading is key to staying ahead of the curve as a leader. With reading, you’re able to stay up to date on the latest trends, discover old classics, and find enjoyment.

I’ve found all of that and more as I’ve expanded my reading library. There’s been must-read fiction books that I’ve devoured. And business books that have given me new insights.

With the new year just kicking into gear, I thought it would be a perfect time to share my list of books you should add to your reading list this year.

Remember, with just a little effort every day, you can fly through books. Reading as little as 10 pages a day (Approximately 10 minutes), you can finish an average 200 page book in 20 days. That means you can finish all twelve of these recommended books by the end of the year.

The Waiting Game

Waiting.

It is not something that I like to do. I, by nature, am a very impatient person. Microwave popcorn just doesn’t seem to pop fast enough for me.

What to do when the microwave isn't fast enough?

When I exercise, I don’t lose pounds or inches fast enough. I constantly contemplate quitting the gym.

Have a repairman come late, I am crawling the walls.

I want things done. And I want them done NOW.

But growth, the kind that matters, usually is done very slowly. You can’t literally see a plant grow unless you have a time lapse camera. You can measure it from time to time, but the Jack and the Beanstalk overnight thing is just a fairy tale.

I need to:

Be more patient with others. When I lead others, I need to look at the potential in each of my team members and plant the seeds to have them grow their potential.

How To Deal With Overwhelm

We’re a couple of days into the new year. How’s it going so far? Excellent, I hope.

And yet I fear you may say you’re already feeling overwhelmed with the new year.

There’s the goals you’ve set that you’re already behind on. There’s the resolutions you’re no longer committed to. There’s not enough time in the day to get done what needs to be done.

You’re struggling and wondering how to deal with the overwhelm you’re feeling.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s never a good feeling. You feel you can’t accomplish what you’ve set out to do. There’s a struggle. You might even feel like you’re drowning.

That’s the power of feeling overwhelmed. You no longer feel in control and the world is spinning around you.

It’s always amazing to me how heavy the feeling of overwhelm can be in your life.
