Is It Time You Say “Avengers Assemble?”

A Reel Leadership Article

And there came a day, a day unlike any other… when Earth’s mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat… to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand… on that day, The Avengers were born.
— Nick Fury

Last Friday Marvel released their blockbuster hit The Avengers. It opened to rave reviews and has broken box office records.

But that’s not all. It tells the story Earth’s mightiest heroes.

The last couple of years we have seen the individual stories of the Avengers. Captain America, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor have all stared in their own movies and faced battles that only they could win.

There is a new threat. These great superheroes are faced with a challenge none of them can defeat by themselves. Thus, Nick Fury has formed the Avengers Initiative. A team of what is to be Earth’s mightiest heroes. A team that the world needs desperately.

Now let me let you in on a little secret.

The world needs a new set of heroes.

Not a bunch of superheroes but a set of everyday heroes. Heroes that are willing to go above and beyond the mundane. Heroes that are willing to challenge the norm. Heroes that are willing to break the mold.

And you’re one of them! Or you can be.

What is required of you is to be willing to do something that is different. Something that is daring. Something that is unexpected.

Are you willing to do this?

You better be! The world is counting on you.

You have talents that no other person has. You’re an author. You’re a teacher. You’re a creative.

You’ve got the skills. And I know you’re willing to use them.

But this journey won’t be easy. You’ll face enemies that you can’t defeat alone.

Criticism, doubt, fear, depression. These enemies will creep into your life and try to defeat you.

Just like Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, and Iron Man you may be able to defeat them by yourself but there will come enemies that are more powerful. More evil. More sinister.

For these enemies you will need your team of Avengers.

You’re probably asking yourself “Who could be on my team?”

That’s not for me to answer but I can give you suggestions of who to look for.

You need to be on the lookout for:

  • Other Creatives:
Keep an eye out for other heroes who are trying to do something great in the world. They’ll be the ones doing great works. Musicians, authors, artists, etc. Men and women who are doing something outside of the norm.

When you find them, they’ll stand by your side and encourage you towards your goal because they know what it feels like. They’ll be your backbone.

  • Cheerleaders:
Look for friends that are willing to speak words of encouragement into your life.Let the people who are willing to lift you up and speak life into your dreams.

They may not be pursuing the superhero gig but they’re willing to support you. To be your cheerleaders.

Keep them close and let them cheer you on.

When you have these two groups in your life, your dreams will start to come to fruition. You’ll be encouraged when you’re down. You’ll have a support team. You’ll be stronger because a cord of two or three is harder to break than a single cord.

Are you ready to yell the battle cry “Avengers Assemble?”

Question: Who is on your team of Avengers? How have they helped you overcome the foe you were unable to overcome by yourself? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

  • Joe, there are so many guys like you, other bloggers and a small group of encouragers in life who “assemble” to help me out. I appreciate all you write and do.

    • Thanks Larry. Glad to know that I’m part of the group that helps you out.

    • I agree. The blogging community definitely came to mind when I read your questions.

  • Okay, let me just say that I am inspired to conquer the world (so to speak) and also to see the movie! The cheerleaders in my world consists of you, my friend, and other bloggers, as well as my wife in cheering me on to do the things that are hard and the things I can do well.

    • Thomas, that is great that you’re inspired to conquer the world! How are you going to take it on?

  • The greatest people I have found who are being every day heroes are fellow bloggers. Those who create and write for the purpose of adding value to others. A community of people who have the goal of making a difference will leave a lasting impact.

I wonder If their is a better way to “assemble” fellow bloggers to produce something that would better impact others. A community site, Facebook page or something. It’s got me thinking now:)

    Great points and post bro.

    • That’s great Dan! Glad to get you thinking about ways to bring us fellow bloggers together. Feel free to bounce ideas off of me!

      • I will. I’ll be thinking about it but don’t think I can focus on working on it right now. Have a good weekend.

    • great idea Dan, I pray God reveals something to you! I agree with you on this wonderful blogging community!

  • I’ve met an amazing group of cheerleaders through blogging. I had no idea blogging would bless me in such wonderful ways!

    • It seems that’s the case for a lot of people TC. The blogging community has created quite a few super teams.

  • I am blessed by those who have come alongside me. But for me God is really my ultimate. He’s the one who helps me overcome.

    • That’s true Ngina! God should be the ultimate source in our lives.

  • I would say we have a group with our little group of bloggers 🙂

  • Ditto to what Kimanzi said!

    • It’s great the groups and friendships we can form from the blogging community, isn’t it Kent? Who would’ve thought this was possible, even a few years ago!

  • When focusing on heroic endeavors, I love serving wherever and whenever possible, but I think my favorite places and times are when I get to serve those who often go unnoticed. For instance, I speak at a lot of large, statewide or national student conferences for organizations like FBLA, FCCLA, and Student Council. I love these opportunities, yet I’m most passionate about the smaller, out of the way opportunities like the one i have next month is a small community in Texas right on the boarder. Rarely does a youth speaker go there, but they called and I’m PUMPED to serve. I’ll be working all day with a handful of teenagers (150 or so), but it will probably be the highlight of my summer. To me, it’s serving and investing in the lives of those who are often overlooked that makes me feel like I’m actually doing something truly heroic.

    • Kent, thanks for sharing that. You’re doing awesome work sharing the message to groups large and small. I’m sure the small groups appreciate it more than you can imagine.
