The latest installment in the Rocky/Creed film series has hit the theaters, and it’s a wild ride through Adonis Creed’s (Michael B. Jordan) past and future. In Creed 3, Adonis has retired from boxing when his friend from childhood returns. However, when Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors) returns, he has a big chip on his shoulder. Adonis has to step up to the challenge of boxing his former friend and bringing him back from the brink of ruin.

A young Damian (Spence Moore II) had taken the fall when a young Adonis (Thaddeus J. Mixson) attacked Leon (Aaron D. Alexander), a person who had terrorized Adonis at the juvenile detention center he was in. Adonis attacked Leon at a convenience store. When Leon’s friends (Brian Neal and Corey Hibbert) jumped in, Adonis was in trouble. That’s when Damian pulled a gun to protect his friend. Jesus Revolution is a new movie directed by Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle. The film was written by Jon Erwin, Jon Gunn, and Greg Laurie (based on his book). A cool fact I found out is that one of my friends on Facebook, Matt Dickerson, was part of the marketing team for the movie.

Jesus Revolution examines the Jesus Revolution that rolled through California (and the country) in the 1970s. Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is a young man struggling to find his way. He seeks hope, love, and joy in drugs, women, and more.

Greg doesn’t find what he’s looking for in any of these activities. Only when he’s had a bad trip and the driver of the van he was in almost crashed does he realize things need to change. He stumbles out of the van and runs into a hippie preacher named Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie) that had been given the pulpit by Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer) at Calvary Chapel.  Read more...

The 2019 movie Knives Out was a smashing success for Rian Johnson. Johnson returns to write and direct another mystery, Glass Onion. He also produces the movie alongside Ram Bergman.

Glass Onion landed in limited theaters before its release on Netflix on December 23rd. If you enjoyed Knives Out, you will love Glass Onion.

Glass Onion is a continuation of the world’s greatest detective (no, not Batman), Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig). He is invited to a murder mystery dinner of an eccentric billionaire, Miles Bron (Edward Norton), founder of a company similar to Facebook and his friends. His friends include Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson), Duke Cody (Dave Bautista), Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn), Lionel Toussaint (Leslie Odom Jr.), and estranged friend Andi Brand (Janelle Monae). Moviegoers have been treated to natural disaster movies. These include films such as Twister, The Day After Tomorrow, and others. Natural disaster movies tap into something that terrifies us while thrilling us.

We’ve also been treated to monster animal movies. Jurassic Park, The Meg, The Grey, and others have brought the horror of animals attacking us to the big screen.

But…

Something happened in 2013. SyFy, a science-fiction focused television channel, merged the two genres. They gave us something that combined animals attacking and natural disasters. That film was Sharknado.

Sharknado became an instant cult classic. The cheesy sci-fi film spawned another five sequels. People flocked to the horrible storytelling, lapses in continuity, and more. The movies were so bad they were good.  Read more...

Growing up, I watched a lot of fantasy movies. I remember tearing up during The Neverending Story, the adventures of Willow, and many other fantasy movies. The film I never remember watching is Labyrinth.

Labyrinth is a Jim Henson (remember the Muppets???) directed film. Henson’s artfully crafted puppets are featured throughout the beautiful movie. So is the musical talent (and acting prowess) of David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth.

Labyrinth tells the story of 16-year-old Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) in her quest to rescue her baby brother, Toby (Toby Froud), from Jareth. Jareth had his goblins take the child when Sarah wished Toby would go away.

There are only 13 hours for Sarah to rescue Toby before Jareth has Toby transformed into one of his goblins. Of course, Sarah accomplishes this task and more.  Read more...
