Being eco friendly means that you are living in a way that is not harmful to the environment.  It’s becoming an increasingly popular way to live, due to how important it is to protect our planet from man-made damage and is a vital decision to make.

Buying eco-friendly products or green alternatives has many advantages, such as products that consume less electricity or less petrol help reduce the amount of fossil fuels we burn. Products that use less water and are chemical-free help us conserve our water resources for future generations. Products packed with the use of biodegradable materials contribute to a cleaner environment for us and for the wildlife surrounding us.

Not only is going green catching on but governments, businesses and people around the world are beginning to take actions to show that their contribution, however big or small, can make a difference. Being eco-conscious involves anything from choosing alternative energies, switching to lower emission transportation options, or even growing your own produce, learning to reuse items, and even getting merchandise for your business that is sustainable like from Earth Friendly Promos.

If you’re keen on finding ways to be more environmentally friendly then you might be interested to know that there are various ways that you can make sustainable changes in order to lessen the negative effect that our daily lives have on the earth.

Use eco-friendly cleaning products

A lot of mainstream cleaning products contain various ingredients that are harmful to the environment. In fact, a lot of chemicals used to clean our clothes, dishes, and house end up causing damage to our planet. Not only are they not environmentally friendly, but they’re also not as easy to create or dispose of.

Chemicals such as detergents, preservatives, or foaming agents are the ones that cause the most harm to nature. Switching to products that contain sustainably grown or raised ingredients that do not deplete the ecosystem, nor harm it when expelled back out.

People should ideally opt for products that contain no synthetic ingredients if they want to go for eco friendly household products.  Exposing yourself repeatedly to these cleaning products can also affect your health as well as the environment. Green cleaning products use more natural and organic methods of cleaning which are far less harmful.

Choose your hygiene products wisely

It doesn’t stop there with your cleaning solutions either. Try using a bamboo toothbrush instead of a regular plastic one and ensure that any part of the hygiene regime is using items that are made to last and be more durable, rather than throw away plastic.

Products that you can swap in your house include cleaners in the kitchen and bathroom, along with all of your personal care items. Consider the chemical ingredients included in each household product and ask yourself if they are really necessary for the purpose that they are intended for. Germs are everywhere and it’s worth bearing in mind that we can’t completely eradicate them and they are beneficial for our immune systems too. Many of the cleaning products you use can be made up of ingredients that aren’t harmful to the planet and are also natural – and you can often make them yourself.

Recycle when you can

Recycling isn’t just about plastic and paper. Food (composting), upcycling, donating, etc. Recycling may cost you little to nothing to do and may even save you money in the long run.

Use buckets or inexpensive trash cans to set up bins if your center requires sorting. You can save aluminum and other metals to take to a local scrap metal center for some extra change. It takes a good bit to add up to anything substantial, but every bit helps.

Composting is another great way to recycle. By using food scraps you can create quality nutrients for your garden – even a container one. Depending on where you live and what your waste and recycling service charges are, you may be able to save money each month by lightening your weekly and monthly waste.

Grow your own produce

If you’ve ever fancied having your own patch of soil to cultivate your own fruit and vegetables, then it’s certainly a good reason to make a start. There are certainly ways to save on organic foods at the food store, like buying in-season and/or on sale, but gardening is also a great way to save money and get in touch with your food.

You may even find that it has an unexpected bonus of being a stress reliever. Seeds are generally inexpensive, and you may be able to harvest your own for the following year or get them free from some places.
