Quotes And Leadership Lessons From The Boys In The Boat

A Reel Leadership Article

My latest book, Reel Leadership, is now available on Amazon. If you love movies and leadership, you will love this book.

In 1936, the University of Washington’s Junior Varsity crew team did something amazing. The crew team consisted of Don Hume (Jack Mulhern), Joe Rantz (Callum Turner), George “Shorty” Hunt Bruce Herbelin-Earle), Jim McMillin Wil Coban), John ‘Johnny’ White (Tom Varey), Gordy Adam (Joel Phillimore), Charles ‘Chuck’ Day (Thomas Elms), Roger Morris (Sam Strike), cox Bob ‘Bobby’ Moch (Luke Slattery). They beat varsity teams and then went to the Olympics. From there, they won the Olympic games and took home gold medals for the USA.

These boys, not men, competed in one of the most grueling sports imaginable. Most people don’t even know what crewing is. I only knew what crew was because of the ethical clothing boutique my wife shops at and does a side hustle for.

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Shazam! Fury Of The Gods

A Reel Leadership Article

My latest book, Reel Leadership, is now available on Amazon. If you love movies and leadership, you will love this book.

The much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 film Shazam! opened recently. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods brings just as much fun to the theaters as the original film. The film continues Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) journey as the boy who says SHAZAM! and is turned into a superhero (Zachary Levi).

Critics have panned the movie. I think they don’t understand the point of film at times. Sure, Reel Leadership looks at the leadership aspect of movies, but movies can also entertain. They take us to a place we couldn’t go to before. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods brings us a lot of fun, laughs, and smiles throughout.

Go into the movie expecting to have fun, and you will. You can also go to the movie expecting to come out a better leader.

Give Your Team Hope

There are going to be tough times in your organization. Sales might be down or you’ll lose key players.

Something will go wrong. That is a guarantee.

But even in these dark times, you need to do something. You need to give your team hope.

Your team needs hope. You can give them hope

The Power Of Hope

My favorite movie series has to be Star Wars. There’s an epic story that goes on.

One where we see a young, powerful boy transform into the biggest baddie the galaxy has ever seen. From there, we see hope rise with the Rebel Alliance forming to fight back against the evil Empire. And, we’re now at a point where the Jedis are gone and a new Jedi is rising.

The Star Wars movies all carried a similar theme: Hope. We must have hope.

There’s power in hope. And that’s why leaders must give their teams hope.

What’s Your Strategy?

Whether you’re leading a church organization, a for-profit business, or even writing a blog, we can easily overlook a key part of our work. Creating and crafting an executable strategy.

Having a strategy for my blog is something I’ve struggled with.

We need strategy for growth

I know the direction I want to go with my blog. My mission is to help equip young leaders with the best leadership content out there.

To do this, I’ve consistently created content around leadership and personal growth. There’s been huge success in that aspect.

However, I’ve failed to grow the business side of the blog.

There’s a reason. I lacked a strategy for bringing in an income.

We Need A Strategy

Without a strategy, we will flounder in trying to grow what we’re building. We may know where we want to go.

While we may know where we want to go. That is vision.

How I Find Time To Create Blog Content

One of the facts that I hope I’ve gotten through to you is that regardless of what you think, we all have the same amount of time in our days. 24 hours. No more, no less.

I preface this blog post with that fact because many people have wondered how I find time to create blog content on a regular basis.

Today, that’s what I want to share with you. My so-called secret to writing blog posts.

You don't have to be the Flash to have time to write

There’s no magic bullet that helps me create new blog posts. There’s nothing special you need to do either to be the next blogger who shares regularly.

You’re not the Flash and move at superhuman speed. Luckily that’s not the secret sauce to writing regularly. Though having the power to write at superhuman speed would be awesome!
