You’re never done developing your leadership skills. The traits that make for a great leader can always be honed and improved. You only have to focus on what will make you better.

But do you know where you need to focus? Most people do not and they struggle to improve their leadership capacity beyond their current point.

You know better. You know you need to continue to improve. And you work towards improving.

At the beginning of 2019, I wanted to share 19 leadership traits leaders should focus on to make this their best year ever. These traits will help you become the leader people want to follow.

19 Leadership Traits To Focus On In 2019

1.  Effective Communication:

Want to lead better? Learn how to communicate better. Leaders who can clearly communicate to their teams often have more success.

Attitude Impacts Everything

Did you know that you have the ability to determine how your day will go? It’s true.

While we can’t make people do what we want. And we can’t change how others treat us. We can make sure we have a good day.

Attitude is your choice

You may be wondering how this could be. It’s simple, yet difficult, to implement.

We have control over the biggest influence of how our day goes. That thing we have control over is our attitude.

Why Attitude Matters

The famed basketball coach Lou Holtz is known to have said: Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

Prime Minister Winston Churchill said: Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

When Too Much Of A Good Thing Is A Bad Thing

You’ve heard from your mother that too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Maybe it was put that everything should happen in moderation.

Honestly, it’s a good mantra to follow. Don’t you agree?

During the summer months, I find it’s much easier for me to eat healthy. Why? I’m not tempted by my second favorite treats… The holiday Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Reese’s releases special peanut butter cups to commemorate special holidays throughout the year. There’s the Reese’s peanut butter eggs, the Reese’s peanut butter hearts, the Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins, and the Reese’s peanut butter Christmas trees.

If you haven’t seen these things, you should. They’re amazing. Once you’ve seen them, you need to eat one or two… Or in my case 20.

There’s nothing wrong with these treats. They’re tasty and they’re fun.

The Power Of Having Self Control

God! I just want to kill that person!

Whoa, those are strong words but ones I’ve thought myself. Sometimes more frequently than I’d like to admit.

Ever been there? Ever wanted to hurt someone? Or maybe it was to extract a painful revenge for a wrong inflicted upon you?

Yet you held off. You didn’t act on your impulse. That’s good.

The restraint you showed is part of having self control. And there’s power behind self control.

Could you imagine if you or those around you didn’t have self control? What could happen?

I bet we’d see

More murder

More robberies

More vulgarity

More road rage

More fights

More ugliness

Self Control Is Awesome

Above, you seen the affects of those that lack self control. People who lack self control can do pretty violent things.
