Watching the previews for Monkey Man, I had flashbacks to the John Wick movies. It looked like the typical revenge thriller with an Indian twist. The action and adventure had a similar feel to those classic action movies. One of the characters even quips about John Wick in the film.

In Monkey Man, an anonymous man named Kid (Dev Patel) fights in underground battles wearing a monkey mask. This gets him the name Monkey Man. He’s always on the losing end as Tiger (Sharlto Copley) has rigged the fights so Kid will always lose.

Kid eventually tires of the endless fights and meager pay. He decides he wants something better. This is when he is introduced to Queenie (Ashwini Kalsekar), a brothel owner. He befriends her and begins to work for her in the kitchen.   Read more...

Walking out of the theater after seeing Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, all I can say is WOW. That movie took me back to the feelings I had when I saw the original Ghostbusters movie. It was a nostalgic romp.

Taking place after Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire continues the story of Phoebe Spengler (Mckenna Grace), Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard), Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd, and Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon). They’ve now moved to New York and into the old firehouse the original Ghostbusters used.

There’s teenage angst as Phoebe is told she’s too young to be a Ghostbuster. There are laughs and cheap thrills, and there are even returning Ghostbusters that will make you cheer.

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From The Beekeeper

Pamela and I were invited to a special sneak preview of the upcoming movie The Beekeeper in IMAX format. In The Beekeeper, Jason Statham plays Adam Clay. Clay is a former Beekeeper, a powerful and top-secret organization that takes care of problems no one else can. He comes out of retirement after the only person who ever took care of him, Eloise Parker (Phylicia Rashad), committed suicide after being scammed by phishers.

This sets Clay on a deadly path. He tears through people in his way until he gets to the top of the food chain of the phishing scheme. 

The Beekeeper goes full throttle on the action, just like you’d expect from a Jason Statham movie. You’ll feel the whiplash as cars explode, bodies fall, and Clay seeks to right a wrong that shouldn’t have happened.  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom

This past weekend saw the DC Snyderverse come to a close. The Aquaman sequel, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, was released to less than stellar reviews. However, I still went and watched the film.

Guess what? While not as good as the first Aquaman movie, it’s still solid. Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom sees Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) facing the returning threat of David Kane/Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

Black Manta returns to remove Aquaman from his throne, make him suffer, and destroy everything he loves. To stop him, Aquaman has to free his once-evil brother, King Orm (Patrick Ailson), to help battle Black Manta and the powerful Black Trident.

It’s a fun movie if you let it be. It’s also a movie full of leadership lessons.  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From The Marvels

Many people have said the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in decline since the amazing Avengers: Endgame movie. While there haven’t been as many great movies since that film, Marvel still has had some winners. 

Having previously seen Captain Marvel and not being a fan, I wasn’t too excited about their latest film, The Marvels. The Marvels continues the story of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau/Photon (Yeyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani). The trio all have light-based powers that get entangled thanks to a new threat.

For those of you who haven’t watched Captain Marvel or the Ms. Marvel Disney Plus series, you may come away a little lost. This movie picks up after both of these, and they are crucial to understanding what is happening. However, I think you can enjoy this movie even without the backstory from those two entries.  Read more...
