Bible Reflection: Be A Barnabas Leader

Youth pastor Sean Nelson recently preached a fantastic sermon to our church youth group. He shared the story of Barnabas, a man who is referred to as a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith (Acts 11:24).

The message stuck with me for multiple reasons. First and foremost, Barnabas’s life exemplified what a Christian leader’s life should look like.

Sean shared four characteristics of Barnabas. For each additional characteristic, I nodded my head and thought these are characteristics every leader should strive for.

I want to encourage you to be a Barnabas leader in this post.

Drawing Inspiration: How Jim Lee’s Approach To Improving His Art Skills Can Benefit Your Leadership Style

Jim Lee is a celebrated comic book artist. His run on the 1990s X-Men is considered legendary. He worked on the title from the beginning of the relaunch in 1991.

While not his first work, this is the work I most think of when I think of Jim Lee. His beautiful characters and purposeful lines drew my attention to the X-Men #1 on the comic book shelves. His attention to detail and skill still blows me away to this day.

His artwork drew in millions of readers. That X-Men #1 sold over eight million copies. Over 30 years later, X-Men #1 holds the distinction of being the single bestselling issue of all time, in no small part due to Lee’s artwork.

Recently, Jim Lee shared on his Facebook a photo of an image he drew as a 12 or 13-year-old kid.

6 Ways To Inspire Your Team To Achieve More

An uninspired team is a sad team. When your people are no longer excited or encouraged to come to work, their work ethic will suffer.

Zig Ziglar used to say, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing, that’s why we recommend it daily.” The same goes for inspiration.

Inspiration doesn’t last forever. Your team has to be continually inspired to stay inspired. To do this, you must be willing to help your team be and stay inspired.

6 Ways To Inspire Your Team To Achieve More

How do you inspire your team to achieve more? You take action on the following six items.

1. Foster A Learning Culture:

A learning culture creates team members who are excited and encouraged to come to work. They know they’re going to learn something new, grow, and become more valuable.

We Have To Help

I recently came across the story of Eric Kilburn Jr. He’s a great young man, by all accounts. Yet, he was in need.

His mother, Rebecca Kilburn, saw that Eric was struggling. Her 14-year-old son needed shoes. Not just any shoes but big shoes. Eric is 6’10” with size 23 feet.

He’s a monster of a young man.

Rebecca sent a call out to local and national media after she couldn’t find shoes that fit Eric. Eric had been wearing shoes that were a size too small. He couldn’t find cleats to play sports. It was frustrating to him and his family.

The media picked up on Eric’s plight. They began running news stories in various news outlets. Today, AOL, MLive, and other news outlets knew this would be a story that had to be told.

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Creed III

A Reel Leadership Article

My latest book, Reel Leadership, is now available on Amazon. If you love movies and leadership, you will love this book.

The latest installment in the Rocky/Creed film series has hit the theaters, and it’s a wild ride through Adonis Creed’s (Michael B. Jordan) past and future. In Creed 3, Adonis has retired from boxing when his friend from childhood returns. However, when Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors) returns, he has a big chip on his shoulder. Adonis has to step up to the challenge of boxing his former friend and bringing him back from the brink of ruin.

A young Damian (Spence Moore II) had taken the fall when a young Adonis (Thaddeus J. Mixson) attacked Leon (Aaron D. Alexander), a person who had terrorized Adonis at the juvenile detention center he was in. Adonis attacked Leon at a convenience store. When Leon’s friends (Brian Neal and Corey Hibbert) jumped in, Adonis was in trouble. That’s when Damian pulled a gun to protect his friend. The police showed up, saw Damian’s gun, and arrested him while Adonis ran and escaped.
