How To Live Out Your Faith In The Workplace

Navigating the somewhat tricky landscape of faith and business can be scary. You may have heard of cases such as Jack Phillips, the Christian baker in Colorado who refused to bake a cake for a homosexual couple, or Joel Dahl, the owner of Dahled Up Construction in Oregon, who was sued for hosting a Bible study during working hours.

These cases are scary. They can make a Christian scared to share their faith or even make the acknowledgment of being a Christian.

But, as a believer, Christians are called to share their faith. We are not called to shirk this responsibility for fear of being persecuted. That’s not what being a Christian is all about.

Yet, more and more Christians are shying away from sharing their faith. It’s because of stories like Jack and Joel’s that have made Christians hide their candles under a bushel (no, we’re not supposed to do this!). Many Christian business owners are willing to lead but unwilling to share their faith. This is sad but understandable… to a point.

Why Great Leaders Extend Grace

I have never met a leader who didn’t need grace extended to them at one point or another. Every leader has failed at some point in their journey. Some harder than others.

I’ve, sadly, seen leaders who have committed some pretty heinous acts. They’ve verbally abused customers, cheated on their spouse, or misappropriated company funds. These leaders needed grace to overcome their past sins.

I’m not sure if you have ever committed any of these leadership faux pauxs. However, I know you’ve had missteps in your leadership. We all have. We’ve all made bad decisions. Because of this, we have needed someone to extend grace to us.

But what about those you lead? Have you been willing to extend grace to those on your team?

We All Mess Up

That’s right. We all mess up. I’ve messed up. You’ve messed up. We’ve all messed up.

6 Things Leaders Need Grace For

Leadership is heavy. The choices leaders make and the actions they have to take are not easy.

For this, leaders need grace.

Showing people the way and helping them reach their potential isn’t easy. It can be maddening at times.

Let’s a took a look at the areas leaders need grace in.

1. Decisions: You knew this was going to be on the list so I got it out of the way right away.

Leaders are tasked with making decisions, many of those decisions are hard. And all decisions have consequences.

Please give us grace when we have to make a tough decision. It’s not easy and weights heavily on us.

2. Action: A leader has to be ready to take action. Whether this is moving forward a church or business in a new direction or letting go of an employee, leaders must move forward.
