The Influence Of A Leader’s Actions In Personal And Professional Relationships

As a leader, people are watching you. They’re looking to see how you will respond to difficult circumstances, challenging people, and even success. People want to know how you will respond to what you’re experiencing.

Beyond that, people are also listening. They’re listening to hear what you say, how you say it, and in what tone you say what you say.

Being a leader is difficult because you’re always under a microscope.

You have to step into leadership knowing this. When you do, you’re prepared to understand how your actions influence personal and professional relationships.

I always think of the youth students my wife and I have mentored. We’ve been in youth ministry for over 20 years. That’s an insane amount of time, but we love the students and know we’re making a difference.

Keeping Yourself On Track

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Another distraction.

Or maybe it’s not knock, knock but ring, ring. The sound of your cell phone going off constantly.

Distractions are all around us. They’re keeping us from doing our best work.

Does anyone else ever feel this is their daily journey? You walk into the office. You take a seat behind your desk. And then someone interrupts your day.

You help your team member take care of the issue. Problem solved. Then the next “knock, knock” happens. And there’s another issue presented to you.

Or, maybe, you’re on track and then you notice the latest season of Stranger Things has dropped on Netflix. It’s time for a binge!

You’re distracted. You’re off track…

Choosing What Matters In Life

Work/Life Balance

Your work-life balance often gets out of whack because of the choices you make throughout your day. You choose to stay late at the office impacts the time you have to spend with your family. Choosing to go out fishing with your boys changes the amount of time you can commit to volunteering at your local church.

Each and every decision you make reduces the amount of time you have to commit in another area of your life. This is why you have to choose what matters in your life.

Making A Choice

Your day is packed with activities. From running the corporate, or church, office to planning your child’s birthday party, to finding time with your spouse. Everything is calling for your attention.

But you can’t choose everything. If you did, you’d choose nothing.
