5 Things Church Leaders Are Doing Right

In a recent post, I shared 5 things church leaders are focusing too much on. It created quite the conversation.

One point that was brought up was that I failed to highlight what church leaders are doing right.

Church leaders are doing some things right

Believe me, I know there are church leaders doing things right. That’s why I want to take a look at the things church leaders are doing right.

  1. Encourage healthy giving: A lot of churches have encouraged their congregations to give because the church NEEDS their money. Whether it’s for building projects, budgets, or some other need of the church, the focus has been inward.

There are churches out there who are encouraging another type of giving. This giving focuses on outward needs.

These church leaders are encouraging healthy giving by sharing what good their tithes and offerings do. This includes donating to local rescue missions, non-profits, and giving to the poor.

5 Things Church Leaders Put Too Much Emphasis On

Leading a church is difficult. There’s pressure from many sources.

You may see agendas pushed by the church denomination, other leaders within the church, church members, and many other sources.

There’s always something someone wants you to be doing and this causes a conflict of direction within the church. Because of this, we see church leaders making mistakes in areas that are deadly to a church.

1. Church growth: While I believe a church that is spreading the good word should grow in size, there’s also the fact some churches can only grow to a certain size.

To place a demand that a church continues to grow and reach certain attendance goals will not help the church.

Rather than focusing on numbers, focus on the spiritual growth of your congregation. This is what truly matters, not the size of the church but the impact that has been made in the lives of the men and women you teach.

8 Things Church Leaders Are Doing Wrong

Church leaders, I know you mean well but you’re doing some things wrong. So much so that you’re turning people away from the church.

That’s the bad news. There’s good news though.

You can change your habits and begin reaching people again. You can stop the mass exodus of people from the church and have a healthy congregation and volunteer team.

Isn’t that great?

Let’s take a look at what church leaders are doing wrong and what we can do to fix them.

1. Trying to make church FUN: This isn’t to say church shouldn’t be fun. Church can be fun, for sure. However, we can’t make that the end goal of the church.

Church is so much more than having fun.

Church is about community. Church is about relationship. Church is about loving God. Church is for preaching and teaching.

How To Keep Quality Volunteers In Your Church Or Organization

If you ask any leader of a non-profit or church what one of the hardest things to do is, you’ll most likely hear they have trouble keeping quality volunteers to help out.

They ask and ask but receive no response. If they do receive responses, those responses are subpar.

The end result is finding quality volunteers is hard.

But there’s actions you can take as a leader to find quality volunteers that will stick with your organization for years to come.

Have clearly defined guidelines: Skimping on guidelines for volunteers is an easy thing to do, especially when you’re struggling to bring in people to help.

This is a huge mistake. The guidelines you’ve laid out for volunteers is there for a reason. They help weed out those who will not be a good fit and clearly defines what is expected out of each volunteer.

5 Websites Church Leaders Should Have Bookmarked

Church leaders know they must continue to work on their skills to improve their knowledge and to continually seek the face of God. We can fall into ruts where we no longer feel the desire to do the seeking. And then we begin to fall away.
