Quotes And Leadership Lessons From The Live Action Lion King

A Reel Leadership Article

I can’t tell you how excited I was to see the new, live-action Lion King movie. The Lion King was a favorite movie of mine and to see it brought to life seemed like a no-brainer.

Oh… how wrong I was.

Mufasa and Simba on a cliff

The latest Disney animated movie to be brought to life didn’t wow and engage like their previous effort, Aladdin. Instead, Pam and I sat bored in the theater watching this trainwreck of a movie.

The new Lion King felt uninspired and thrown together. Nothing truly caught my attention and I was disappointed because of this.

If you do go and watch the live-action Lion King, know you won’t be in for a great movie. You’ll be in for a great movie made into something mediocre.

What If Work-Life Balance Was Actually This?

Through my writing on work-life balance, I’ve come to ponder something about this sought-after concept. Balancing your work life and your personal life sounds amazing.

You have all the time you need to work. To play. To spend time with your family.

Could happiness be what work-life balance is all about?

But is this truly possible? Can we balance everything we want with everything we must do? And, if we can’t, is there something more than work-life balance?

I think I’ve come to a new conclusion. Work-life balance isn’t about having a perfect life. Instead, it’s more about doing the things you need to do.

This leads to something else. This leads to happiness.

Could Work-Life Balance Be Happiness?

Yes, you have to find a semblance of balance in your life. You can’t be all work and no play. You also can’t be all play and no work.

Choosing What Matters In Life

Work/Life Balance

Your work-life balance often gets out of whack because of the choices you make throughout your day. You choose to stay late at the office impacts the time you have to spend with your family. Choosing to go out fishing with your boys changes the amount of time you can commit to volunteering at your local church.

Each and every decision you make reduces the amount of time you have to commit in another area of your life. This is why you have to choose what matters in your life.

Making A Choice

Your day is packed with activities. From running the corporate, or church, office to planning your child’s birthday party, to finding time with your spouse. Everything is calling for your attention.

But you can’t choose everything. If you did, you’d choose nothing.

This won’t happen unless you begin to change your daily habits. Habits that have been ingrained in you for months, years, maybe even decades. These habits are a part of who you are.
