Reading, or continuous learning, is something every leader needs to do. That’s why every month I bring you five books to consider reading. These are books by men and women who have been there and done that. They have the experience, knowledge, and practicality to get you from point A to point B.

This month’s list consists of five more great books for leaders. They are enjoyable, easy reads that will take you to the next level. If you don’t enjoy reading physical books, consider picking up an audiobook version. All but one of the books on this list have that option for you!

Pam and I were planning on seeing the new Tom Cruise movie Mission Impossible: Fallout this past weekend with our Moviepass accounts. However, due to the recent troubles Moviepass has faced, the movie we’d desired to see was blocked out from our account. This meant we had to choose another movie this weekend.

That movie was the DC Comics animated movie Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. Teen Titans Go! To The Movies brings the most recent Teen Titans cartoon to the big screen. This series is not as serious as the previous Teen Titans cartoon or the upcoming R-Rated Teen Titans live-action streaming series on the DC Universe streaming service.

Instead of being serious or dark, Teen Titans Go! plays up the sidekick superheroes as immature, childish, and selfish. This made for a fun time at the theater. Teen Titans Go! Quotes And Leadership Lessons From X-Men

The world of comic book movies changed on July 14th, 2000. This date was the release date of the original 20th Century Fox film X-Men. Based on the Marvel comic book series, X-Men, X-Men brought to life the stories children had been reading for years.

Indeed, X-Men wasn’t the first comic book movie. It wasn’t even the first Marvel movie. Previous Marvel movies included Howard The Duck and Blade.

Both of those movies were fun. They stayed pretty true to the original comic book characters. Except one thing never happened: These two films didn’t kickstart the comic book movie craze. X-Men did.

X-Men cast from the 2000 X-Men movie

Bryan Singer directed the X-Men movie. David Hayter wrote the screenplay (I interviewed him for my book, Reel Leadership).

X-Men hits the spot if you want to enter the world of live-action mutants. The character portrayals were spot on. There were romantic tensions between the characters. There were great action scenes. And, as usual, great leadership lessons.  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Hellboy 2019

The movie theater has been a great place for those who love comic book movies. Last week, theatergoers were treated to the DC Comics movie Shazam! In two weeks, audiences will be treated to the Avengers: Infinity War sequel Endgame, and this weekend saw the release of Dark Horse Comics Hellboy.

Hellboy is the 3rd Hellboy movie to be released in the theaters. The first two starred a man who nailed the look of Hellboy, Ron Perlman. Sadly, Perlman did not return for the latest entry in the Hellboy series as this is more of a reboot than a sequel.

The Hellboy movie is based upon the Mike Mignola comic books and graphic novels. Hellboy is stuck in a war between the supernatural and human worlds.

While I remember the original Hellboy movies to be a fun, fairly upbeat series of movies, the latest Hellboy movie takes a dark turn. It’s much darker and grittier than the previous movies. This will turn some people off.  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Aquaman

The DC movie universe has been hit or miss for quite some time. Leadership at DC and Warner Brothers must have taken notice as Aquaman and Wonder Woman has broken from the pack of new comic book movies and been enjoyable.

Aquaman tells the story of Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) as he steps into his role as the protector of Atlantis. We see the blossoming of his parents, Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and Tom Curry (Temeura Morrison), romance to his romance with Mera (Amber Heard).

The Aquaman movie was overall enjoyable and well-paced. You want to see a great comic book character brought to life? You will see it in Aquaman. You will also get a well-told story.
