Two Notices:
I apologize if you received an email that a new blog post was published on November 11th. I had meant to schedule the post for a later date and instead published it early.
There have been quite a few views on my About Me page. I would like to apologize for it being empty. That is now corrected and you can now learn all about me. Just click on About Me above this post.
Now, onto the content!
Football season is upon us. Many of us get excited about our favorite teams and carve out time to watch them play. We spend our Sunday afternoons, Monday nights, Thursday nights, and more in front of the TV cheering on our favorite teams and players.
It is not just football, but with many other sports. Sometimes we do it with TV shows. We sit down and spend countless hours watching someone live out a life that we are not living or a completely scripted and fake life.
Why do you suppose we do this?
Often we do this because we want a release from our life and to see someone living a life we could only dream of. We see people rescuing others, making the game winning play, or obtaining their goal.
You want to know something crazy? You can live a life that is more exciting and enjoyable than those you see on TV.
Television keeps the masses occupied. What if everyone decided they wanted to make something of their lives? Television keeps the competition down and keeps more criminals off the street. What if everyone decided to go to law school or medical school? It would sure make it tough on the rest of us.

“How?” you may ask. Below, I have outlined five ways to obtain a more fulfilling life.
1.Define your dreams and passions: Without a clear definition of what you want to do with your life, you will continue to wander and struggle with feeling fulfilled. Brainstorm ideas of what you would like to do. Would you like to skydive, travel to far off countries, or learn a new skill? Write out your definition of a fulfilled life and begin to plan it out. By knowing what you want to do, you can take the steps to fulfilling your dreams and passions.
2.Turn off the TV: I used to be a big TV watcher. I would get home from work and the first thing I would do is turn on the TV. I had to break myself of this habit and I’m glad that I did.
The TV entices us to watch it. You can always find something on TV to kill a few hours. Before you know it, you have wasted countless hours watching something you will not remember tomorrow. Instead of watching the TV, take that time and complete a goal you have. Instead of watching someone else feel fulfillment, you will actually receive that feeling. After a few days, you will not even miss the TV.
Television has proved that people will look at anything rather than each other
— Ann Landers
3. Form a community: We all need to belong to a community. Choose your community well and you could gain a lot of fulfillment from them. Your community can help you participate in activities that you would not have tried before. You will also be able to bounce ideas off of each other and expand your knowledge. I believe there is nothing better than being involved in a great community.
4. Volunteer: Do you want to be like the heroes you see on TV? Would you like to rescue someone or change their life? Well, volunteering will make you a hero and give you fulfillment. When you volunteer, you give of yourself to help raise someone else up. If you volunteer at a soup kitchen, you help change someone’s life by giving them food and nourishment. You are helping to save their life! By mentoring and giving your time to someone who needs encouragement, you could help shape them into the next CEO of a company. You are a hero when you volunteer!
5. Participate in the sport you love to watch: You may not have the cheering crowds and adoring fans, but you will actually be playing the game. You could be the one making the game winning touchdown, the winning home run, or the winning goal. Instead of watching a person you do not know winning, you could be the one winning. Not only will you give yourself the chance to win, you will help improve your physical fitness. This will result in a boost of energy and a feeling of accomplishment as you become thinner and more active.
I would like to challenge you today to turn off the TV and live a life that is worth living. Make a difference in your life and those around you. Become the hero you love to watch.
