We Were Made To Be “Courageous”- Movie Review And Giveaway

Last night our church decided to head out to the movies and catch the newly released Courageous. The movie revolved around four men on the police force and the struggles that they faced in their homes. I’m going to give a brief review of the movie. I’m also going to be giving away a promotional poster for this movie(image to the left).

Courageous is from the creator of Fireproof, Alex Kendrick. I’ve never seen Fireproof so I was not sure of what to expect as far as acting, script, and quality. To be honest, I was hesitant to see the movie as the Christian movies I had been raised on never won any awards. However, after viewing Courageous, I’ll say it was worthy of our time and money.

The movie starts out fast paced. There’s a great action scene at the very beginning of the movie that is used to draw you in and show you the passion one of the characters has(You can view this opening scene at the official website). After this, the movie slows down a bit and focuses on the home lives of the officers and a tragic event that happens to one of the officers. Through this tragedy, he decides to take a bold step and asks a few of his fellow officers to hold him to a standard he designed from the scripture.

The movie also had quite a few moments of comedy. Several times our theater burst out in laughter at the lighter moments in the movie. Talking to some of the people exiting the movie, they laughed so hard that they cried.

There were also some very heavy hitting moments in the movie. The catalyst that got the officers to take a new oath was heart-wrenching. Seeing the officers struggle with family issues was tough. Sometimes you even see yourself in their shoes. Whether it be neglecting one child for another, missing out on important family events, or struggling with job loss. This movie hit on a lot of these issues.

Overall, this movie hit a lot of key points that the church today is missing. It had a great message of men need to stand up in their households. They need to watch over their families and protect them. Men need to be involved in the lives of their children and wife. This movie will inspire you, make you examine your family life, and hopefully give you some ideas on how to become a better father and husband.

I was able to obtain a promotional movie poster for Courageous. I’ll be giving it away to one lucky reader. All you need to do is answer the question below and have a valid email address. This giveaway will run from today until Friday October 7th. I will contact the winner on Monday the 10th after I return from Catalyst.

I’ve just added a new subscription notifier for when I post new content. It is located to the right of this post. Please be sure to add your email address so you will know when something new has been posted. Now onto the question!

Question: Has a movie ever impacted you in a profound way that it made you want to change? If so, what movie was it and were you able to make the change?
