The Upside, starring Kevin Hart as Dell Scott and Bryan Cranston as Phillip Lacasse, is a heart-warming tale. Based on the true story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and his life auxiliary Abdel Sellou, The Upside tells the story through the eyes of Phillip (instead of Phillippe) and Dell (instead of Abdel). The Upside is also a remake of the French film The Intouchables.

A little backstory: Phillip became a quadriplegic after a tragic paragliding accident. With his wife having passed away after a battle with cancer, Phillip wants to give up on life.

Courageous Servant Leadership

I had one of my most profound, memorable, touching experiences in Washington, D.C. two weeks ago that I’ve realized after reflection has some important connections to leadership.

President George Herbert Walker Bush, naval aviator, Congressman, Ambassador to China, Director of the CIA, Vice-President, and eventually 41st President of the United States passed away a couple of weeks ago. Immediately, Washington D.C. mourned the loss of our former leader. The flags have been at half mast ever since and will continue to be so for 30 days following a President’s death.

A good friend and Sigma Chi pledge brother of mine suggested we go visit President Bush lying in state, pay our respects, and express our gratitude for his long life of service and leadership, the subject of this post. We spread our plan to the whole fraternity and about 8 brothers signed on to come. We decided it would only be appropriate if we wore formal attire. Some brothers were coming from class or studying so they couldn’t, but we put on jackets, ties, and slacks and piled into an uber XL for the Capitol Building.  Read more...

Making This Your Best Year Ever

This past year might have been a year full of struggles. You may have faced overwhelming business challenges. You may have gone through a relationship breakup. Or you might have lost your home due to reasons beyond your control.

Whatever last year brought you, you still want more in this new year. Who doesn’t? We always want to make the future better for ourselves and for those around us.

I missed A Quiet Place in the theaters. After watching it this past weekend, I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to see A Quiet Place (buy it on Amazon).

The movie takes place sometime in the future where the world has been decimated by monsters who have hyper-sensitive hearing. This has forced the world to go into hiding and to remain virtually silent.
