Choose The Right Bus

You’ve probably heard of Jim Collins and his book Good To Great. In this book, he shares that we must make sure the right people are on the right bus.

So we focus on that. We put our effort and energy into putting our people into the right areas.

While doing this, we forget to ask ourselves an important question: Am I on the right bus?

The right bus matters

What Bus Is The Right One?

Choosing the right bus to lead is a daunting task. The opportunities are plenty. Especially if you’re being courted by different organizations.

Everywhere we look, the “bus” looks right.

Company A offers great health benefits. Company B is willing to give you more time off of work. Company C wants to give you autonomy.

All of these sound great. But which one is right?

My Biggest Struggle (And Probably Yours Too)

Being in a leadership position brings a whole slew of new problems. And one of those adds to my biggest struggle.

Truth be told, my struggle probably isn’t much different than yours. Especially if you’re a believer.

We all struggle

My Struggle

Do you want to know what I am constantly battling? Too bad, I’m going to tell you anyways.

I’m in a constant struggle with myself.

That’s right, I fight and struggle and rage against me, myself, and I.

Every day my Self rises within me. It tells me that I deserve more. My Self tells me that I am better than I am. It

And I have to constantly do battle with this inner feeling of entitlement.

That’s my struggle.

I feel like I’m entitled to things that I’m not.

Be An Authentic Leader

You will be found out. People will begin to realize you’re not who you say you are. They’ll see the true you.

And that’s the truth if you’re not leading authentically.

People don’t want to be led by a phony. They want real people being authentic. This means flaws and all.

Yet too many leaders don’t want to show their authentic self.

These leaders try to speak the language of the people they’re currently leading, thinking it will make them relevant. These leaders will hide their flaws instead of relishing in their brokenness.

What Is An Authentic Leader?

In my time as a leader, I’ve struggled. I didn’t have the right words to say, especially when a student passed away in a car accident or another student struggled with a bad breakup.

You Are Judged By Who You Partner With

I always tend to go back to a famous Jim Rohn quote. You know the one.

You are the average of the 5 people you hang around with the most

In the online world, we often associate that with surrounding ourselves with the people we want to be around.

The successful ones. The businessman (or woman). The creator or doer.

Who are you partnering with?

Those are great people to be around. They’re going to help propel your success.

What We Forget

While we’re trying to slide into the IN crowd, we forget something. We can easily let our sense of right or wrong slip away.

Or maybe it was never there to begin with.

Years ago, I remember attending a webinar for someone I highly admired. I was stoked to see him succeed.

Then I began to watch the webinar. And I was surprised by the co-presenter.
