Leadership Lessons And Quotes From Ghostbusters

A Reel Leadership Article

For years, more than 25, there have been rumors of a new Ghostbusters movie. Well, the new Ghostbusters is here.

And I was, and am, excited about the new movie.

I have fond memories of the original Ghostbusters. The cast was stellar.

We had Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson as the team battling ghosts. And, we can’t forget, making us laugh.

We don’t see the original team reform in what I like to call Ghostbusters 2016. Instead, we see a whole new team.

The new Ghostbusters is not a sequel. It’s a reboot with an all-female ghostbusting team. One that surprised me more than disappointed.

So, I want to share, as usual, the leadership lessons and quotes I found in the new Ghostbusters movie. Are you ready?

CAUTION: Ghostbuster spoilers below

How To Be A Leader When You’re Only A Manager

Sometimes it’s difficult to feel fulfilled as a leader when you are currently working as a manager.

Sure, your bosses want you to be a leader (or so they tell you in your annual performance reviews), but real leadership involves having the freedom to envision the future and having the authority to make tough decisions that hopefully end up with results like “driving growth”, “reducing costs”, “streamlining operations”, or any other corporate buzz-phrase that sounds like you just stepped out of a powerful board meeting.  But let’s face it, when you are a manager, your sole responsibility is to “manage” the day-to-day tasks as required by your boss.

So what’s a mid-level manager to do with all of their passion to lead and no real outlet to lead in?

Why Pokemon GO Will Be Good For Your Business

You’ve probably already heard about the latest smartphone app craze: Pokémon GO. In Pokémon GO, players use their smartphones to capture legendary Pokémon via a geo-location based app.

Released on July 6th, 2016, Pokémon GO has created quite the stir.

why your business needs to capitalize on Pokemon GO

What’s The Big Deal About Pokémon GO?

That’s the question everyone is asking. Why is this new Pokémon game so popular?

I have a few theories.

Pokémon GO plays on the nostalgia of those who grew up in the 90’s. Those who watched Pokémon growing up, want to try this new take on their favorite childhood cartoon.

Pokémon GO brings people together. The last couple of days have been crazy. Anywhere Pam and I walked, we ran into Pokémon GO players. Most weren’t alone. Pokémon GO players travel in packs and play together.

4 Ways Positive Thinking Changes You

On a recent run, I listened to a fascinating book by Jon Gordon. That book was The Positive Dog.

Gordon shared the story a young dog who had been unadoptable at the pound. And he thought that he was going to be there the rest of his life.

Then, one day, an old, wise dog named Bubba stepped into his life. He shared with him the wisdom of thinking positive and how it could change lives.

Change your life with positive thinking

The book was a fun, short story about the power of positive thinking. It also got me thinking about my thoughts and whether I was thinking positively.

The truth is that I haven’t been thinking positive thoughts lately. I’d been pretty negative.

That needs to change. So, I’m remembering what happens when you begin to have positive thoughts.
