Become A Brain-Savvy Leader: An Interview With Charles Stone

Leadership requires more from us than just showing up. We’re required to use our bodies and, more importantly, our minds to lead well.

That’s why I’m excited about today’s post.

Become a brain-savvy leader

I was recently able to interview Dr. Charles Stone. Dr. Stone is the lead pastor at West Park Church in London, Ontario. He’s been in church ministry for over 34 years. Along with his experience leading churches, Dr. Stone has an advanced degree in the neuroscience of leadership. And, recently, he released his new book Brain-Savvy Leaders: The Science Of Significant Ministry (Read on to learn how you can win 1 of 2 copies that I have to give away).

This man knows his stuff. And he’s ready to share with you.

3 Things To Check When You Get The Gut Rumbles

Your gut rumbles. Deep down you feel something is off.

But you brush off the feeling.

The blame is placed on the bad Chinese food you had last night or the spicy chili you had for breakfast. The gut rumblings are more physical than intellectual. Or so you tell yourself.

Listen To Your Gut

God has given us an incredible intuition. Even without knowing all of the facts, we can often tell when there’s danger or something isn’t right.

You know what I’m talking about…

The scared feeling you have walking down a darkened alley

The inability to breath as you jump out of a perfectly good airplane

The small voice in the back of your head telling you you’re about to make a bad decision

Your intuition is trying to tell you something. That’s the gut rumblings I’m talking about.

Speak Up Before It’s Too Late

I’ve missed many opportunities in life because I was afraid to speak up.

An uneasy fear rises up when I feel the desire to offer up an idea or oppose a plan. It’s frustrating.

It’s also been holding me back.

Recently, I had the idea to create a video library showcasing what our MRP software could do.

The videos would include demos of placing an order, creating a job, and shipping a product, among other things. I thought it was brilliant.

But not enough to speak up. That was a mistake.

A few months after having the idea to create demonstration videos, another person in our company spoke up. He recommended we create videos detailing our workflow process.

This was right in line with my idea.

Only I never presented it.

Why?

I felt my idea didn’t hold merit
