Harnessing The Power Of Expectations

Think back to Christmas day and the expectations you had. Presents wrapped underneath the Christmas tree. Snow on the ground. The days off of school.

Expectations were built. Expectations were had. Sometimes they were met, other times we were left empty.

However, there was a power behind our expectations.

The power of our expectations was able to get us out of bed early. Excited and ready to rip into presents.

Now, expectations normally let us down.

We have the expectation of the daily grind. The expectation of doing our daily workout. Or maybe it’s the expectation of returning to work on Monday.

Somehow we’ve let expectations turn into a negative, rather than a positive, empowering force.

How can you harness the power of expectation today? Here’s a few tips to do so.

9 Leadership Lessons And Quotes From Hercules

A Reel Leadership Article

Every time I hear the name Hercules, I flash back to the Nutty Professor movie where Eddie Murphy’s character chants Hercules! Hercules! Hercules!

But that’s not what this post is about. Nor is it about the Disney Hercules movie from a few years ago.

This isn't Disney's Hercules movie

Instead, these are the leadership lessons from the new live-action Hercules movie with Dwayne Johnson. The one released in July 2014.

Leadership lessons from Hercules

I was really excited to see the new Hercules movie. The premise fascinated me and I love watching Dwayne Johnson act. He’s been fun to watch since his time wrestling as The Rock in the WWF and WWE. He’s also had great roles in the Fast and the Furious movies, the Scorpion King, and many others.

So, I was expecting great things from Hercules. I’m not sure I got that but I was able to take away leadership lessons from Hercules.

Why I Stopped Waiting For Inspiration To Strike

There’s something romantic about being a creative. Whether it’s an artist, a musician, or a writer. Everything about the creative process, to those on the outside, seems amazing.

You get to create a masterpiece others can enjoy. You’re sharing a talent you have with the world. You’re able to express yourself. Oh, and you’re always inspired!

Oh, what a crock! I’ve got to tell you that rarely does an inspiring moment hit right when I desire it to.

Knowing this, I had to stop waiting for inspiration to strike.

There’s been stories written about inspiration and how inspiration strikes at just the right moment. I’m not sure I’ve found that to be the case.

Inspiration rarely strikes me when I want it to. I can’t call upon inspiration to bless me with the insights I want to have.

Everyone Won’t Be Cool With You

There’s an inner longing to be loved and adored. We all want people to like us. You even feel that way, right?

I’m pretty sure you desire to have people like you. I know I want people to like me.

But there’s a problem with wanting everyone to like you and be cool with you.

So, what’s the problem? Why shouldn’t we want everyone to be cool with what we’re doing?

That problem is simple. People are going to disagree with you.

Your ideas may not align with the beliefs of others. Your methods may be different from what has been seen. Your personality may rock people the wrong way.

And that’s okay!

Really, it is okay that you won’t click with everyone. We weren’t meant to.
