3 Ways To Be An Extraordinary Leader

I find it’s not the huge actions that create an extraordinary leader, at least from the person being lead. The big actions are the results of many smaller actions that lead to an extraordinary leader.

To truly be a great leader, you’ve got to do work on the simple matters. Little things too many people overlook because they want to be seen as great, right away.

Let’s look at 3 ways you can become an extraordinary leader.

1. Thank your team: The company my wife works for held an annual Christmas party where they thanked their team. They fed them, gifted them, and thanked them.

This left both my wife and I feeling overwhelmed, to the point of tears.

The simple act of a Christmas party thanking everyone left such a lasting impression on our lives. My wife felt her hard work was appreciated and so is the work of the rest of the team.

Don’t Get Stuck In The Start

Starting is the hardest thing to do. Or so people say.

But is it really the truth? Is starting all that hard?

I don’t think starting is really hard. It’s actually pretty easy. Especially now when you’re able to start with so little.

Starting requires virtually nothing now. You can start a business with just a computer and internet access. You can start a club through the use of websites like meetup.com. You can even get people to help you to start by using Kickstarter.

Stuck In The Start

You see, starting has never been easier.

With that, we’re able to get stuck in the start.

We prepare. We get the foundation set. We even raise money.

And yet we’re stuck. We don’t know where to go after starting.

This has happened with my friend, Brandon, and I.

Stop. Look. Go Leadership

One of the earliest things we were taught when we were children, especially as we gained the ability to walk and go outside, was to Stop, Look, and then Go across the street. Do you remember being taught this childhood skill?

I do.

The crazy thing? Stop, look, go easily applies to our leadership. Too bad more of us don’t follow this simple practice.

You might know of someone who didn’t follow stop, look, go before crossing the street. There were times the person made it safely across the road. Then, there might have been a time when they didn’t.

I think back to elementary school and my friend Antwan.

Antwan lived 5 fives houses away. We’d go to school together, play video games, and have a good time. Then there was that day. The day he didn’t stop, look, and then go.

7 Leadership Lessons And Quotes From Masters Of Doom

A Reel Leadership Article

Growing up, I was a major fan of video games. Whether it was the child-friendly Mario games or the bone-chilling game Doom. I loved video games.

When I heard there was a book about the makers of Doom, I quickly put it on my book reading list. With the help of Audible.com, the book rose to the top and I recently finished listening to the book.

Masters of Doom was the book written about the people who made Doom. They chronicled the rise of ID Software, what made them great, and what made them fall apart.

Wil Wheaton, of Star Trek fame, was the reader of the audio book. His presentation was perfect for a book such as this.

Wil brought the story to life and made me want to sit in my Ford truck listening to the story long after I arrived at my location.
