Sometimes Rest Will Be Forced Upon You

One of the things I really enjoy is an early morning run. I’m able to get up and out of the house before anyone is awake and hit the road running.

My mind becomes focused on completing the run within half an hour. Running is a blast.

And yet I’ve suddenly been sidelined. I’ve been forced to rest.

Ever been there?

I’ve been forced to stop running and rest because of a foot injury. There are days it kills to walk.

I knew something had to be done so I’ve cut back on running, almost to the point of quitting.

This isn’t what I wanted. I wanted to keep running. To stay fit. To log the miles.

But here I am. Sitting and waiting for my feet to heal.

Wake Up To The New Reality

Look around you. Have you noticed something is different? Something has changed.

There’s a new reality all around us. If you haven’t already, it’s time to wake up to the new reality.

Reality has been a constant change. One moment life seems grand. The next it all comes crashing down.

What many people haven’t realized is the reality of the workplace has been shifting as well.

What Once Was

Once upon a time, it seems so long ago now, there was certainty in the choice of careers and the leading of people. To get a great job, all one had to do was go to college, get a degree, and put yourself out there.

And you’d get chosen.

Someone would find your resume, peruse it, and call you into the office. In no time flat, you’d have landed a cushy job.

How To Stop Being Lonely As A Leader

One of the biggest complaints I’ve heard from leaders is that leadership is lonely at the top. It’s a tough job and requires so much from the leader.

Just last year, the Harvard Business Review published an article on leadership loneliness. So, if you’re feeling alone as a leader, don’t despair. You’re not alone.

There’s good news. You don’t have to be alone as a leader. There’s plenty of ways to find others of like minds and join forces with them.

It may be through a business venture or some other method, but I know you can find other leaders who need the friendship you so deeply long for.

Here’s my top three suggestions for beating the loneliness of a leader:

Top Posts And Commenters For October 2013

Wow, I sit here wondering where the month has gone. Shocked and amazed that October has ended and November is beginning.

Halloween was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping we’d be able to pass out candy to the trick or treaters but the rain seemed to held them back from knocking on our doors. When we realized this, we chose to go to the theater and see the hilarious movie Despicable Me 2. This movie had my wife laughing throughout the whole film. Definitely go see, or rent, it if you’re looking for a good laugh.
