The Responsibilities Of Leadership

We’ve all heard that leadership is influence. This quote from John Maxwell is great. There’s truth behind what’s being said. When we influence others, we are leading.

However, there’s also responsibility that comes along with leadership.

I believe we far too often overlook the responsibilities of leaders. Sure, we know what leaders are supposed to do.

Leaders are supposed to:

Guide your team

Influence others to action

Cast a vision

Share the message

Create teams

And more…

It’s great to know what we’re supposed to do as leaders. These actions give us a road map for leadership.

And yet leadership is so much deeper than tasks.

Leadership means taking on responsibility.

Responsibilities Of Leadership

As leaders we’ve got responsibilities to those we lead. We’re going to be held accountable for the actions we take and where we lead our followers.

What Is Simple Leadership?

In my recent post on 5 Reasons Why Simple Leadership Rocks, a reader called me out in the comment section. And, to be honest, I deserved to be called out.

While my post explained why leading simply rocked, I forgot to explain and show how you can lead simply. Thanks to Caleb, you’ll get that in this post.

Leaders have been taught again and again that leadership is difficult. Your processes should be understood only by you and only you should be in control.

This has made leadership much more difficult than it should be. Instead, you should be leading simply.

What Is Simple Leadership?

Now, I don’t want to get overcomplicated in this post. It is, after all, about leading simply and effectively. There shouldn’t be much confusion to this after the post is done.

10 Ways Young Leaders Can Start Strong

Many young leaders struggle with starting strong. They’re passionate and energized. And they want to make a great impression.

Yet there’s the struggle: How does a young leader start strong and leave the best impression possible?

Start Strong

1. Be Passionate: My first piece of advice would be to have a passion for leadership and what you’re doing. The more passionate you are, the more engaged you’ll be as you lead.

2. Listen to your team: You may be the leader of the team but you’re also fresh to the team. If you’re joining an already established team, listen to those who have been there awhile. They’ll have seen how things are run and what improvements can be made. Take their suggestions to heart.

The Larger Impact Of Your Leadership

Take a moment and think about your leadership. Who does it affect? How far into the future will your leadership go?

These are two questions we need to think about. It’s the larger impact of leadership.

Leaders can often see well into the future. Leaders are the vision casters. The ones who create big schemes to do grand things.

If we’re thoughtful as a leader, we can guide the future of our leadership and raise up new leaders to take our place. This is how our leadership can have a lasting impact. In reality, the way we train up our team can carry onto generations we never thought we’d touch.

We’ve got to be mindful of the impact we’re leaving. Think about your legacy today. Picture it in your mind. Plan it out and create the road map that will be the guide as you lead.

What You Do In The In-Between Matters

For a long time, adventure has called my name. I’ve been drawn to whitewater rafting, skydiving, ice climbing, and other adventurous activities.

My life tries to revolve around these fun and exciting trips. They seem to draw the most out of my life. They make me feel alive.

However, I’m being drawn into the in-between moments lately.

I wonder if you’re realizing the in-between matters just as much, if not more, than the big events in our lives.

What Is The In-Between?

You may be wondering what is the In-Between. I’ll try to explain it to you.

The In-Between is the time between adventures. When you’re really living life and not just a sound bite. It’s the down time. It’s the daily grind. It’s being.

That’s my definition.
