We’re All Imposters (Or Are We?)

I don’t know how else to put this, so I’ll say it this way. We’re all imposters.

Think about it for a minute.

Are we really impostors?

Now that you’ve had time to think about it, can you see the truth in this statement?

We All Feel Fake

I believe we’re all faking something.

You may be faking your confidence as you lead your team into difficult times. You may be faking it when you told your wife you loved her this morning (even though you do, you’re just not feeling it). Or you may be faking it when you say you’ve got everything under control.

Even if you’re not faking something at this moment, you’re probably feeling like an impostor.

You feel like you don’t have what it takes to get the job done. You feel you can’t take care of your family. You feel like you’ve let everyone down.

But you’re doing your best as you put one foot in front of the other.

I know this because I’ve been there. I AM THERE.

We’re Still Being Real

While we feel like everything around us is fake, there’s still realness in our lives.

You’re committed to doing a great job. You’re devoted to your wife. You’re giving it all you’ve got.

That’s REAL. That’s doing what you can.

Sometimes, that’s all we can do.

Don’t worry if it feels fake. Life’s like that sometimes.

It tries to get us down when we’re not where we desire. Life tells us we’re not being true to ourselves.

Feeling something doesn’t mean it’s real. It means that we have our doubts.

Doubts that have been planted in us by others and, unsurprisingly, our own selves.

We will never feel like we’re good enough. We’ll never feel like we’re loving our wife enough. We’ll never please everyone.

That doesn’t mean we’re an imposter when we move forward. It means we’re alive.

We’re making choices. The best choices we can make at the time.

That’s REAL. That’s YOU.

You’re not an imposter. You’re someone who’s on a path to where you WILL be.

Don’t give up today because you feel like an imposter. Instead, push forward because you feel like one.

That means you’re doing something right.
