Archives For young leaders

Leading is never an easy proposition. Add being young to leadership and you can easily feel overwhelmed.

Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, I know I can turn to the word of God for a bit of encouragement. The good book is full of encouragement for young leaders (and people in general).

If you’re not a believer, I strongly believe you can still find the words of the Bible encouraging.

Let’s take a look at the 20 verses I believe can encourage young leaders.

The following scripture verses will help encourage you. They’ll also challenge you to lead well. I hope you find them as encouraging and uplifting as I do.

1. Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

Many young leaders struggle with starting strong. They’re passionate and energized. And they want to make a great impression.

Yet there’s the struggle: How does a young leader start strong and leave the best impression possible?

Start Strong

1. Be Passionate: My first piece of advice would be to have a passion for leadership and what you’re doing. The more passionate you are, the more engaged you’ll be as you lead.

2. Listen to your team: You may be the leader of the team but you’re also fresh to the team. If you’re joining an already established team, listen to those who have been there awhile. They’ll have seen how things are run and what improvements can be made. Take their suggestions to heart.

As a leader, one of our goals should be to raise up leaders who are just starting out. They are, after all, the next generation of leaders whether we like it or not.

Since these leaders will take over where we left off, it’s our duty to encourage them, guide them, and give them the tools to succeed. Are you ready to do that?

If you are, I’m here to show you why we must be willing to encourage the next generation of leaders.

The most obvious reason to encourage these young leaders?: Young leaders are going to take over your job. Why not set a great example and raise them up in ways you know will work. Encourage them and motivate them to do the same great job you do.

One of the greatest joys of my life has been pouring into the lives of young leaders. Seeing the hunger and drive of their youth is invigorating.

And yet we see young leaders fall to the wayside far too often. Hurt, discouraged, ready to give up.

This is why we must find ways to stay encouraged. A discouraged leader does his team no good.

Today I want to offer you 15 encouragements as you take the leadership journey. Some will apply to situations you’re currently facing. Others will apply to the situations that will be coming. Tuck these pieces of encouragement away and pull them out when you need them.

You’ll never fully arrive: What? This is an encouragement? Yes, if I do say so. Remember, the end will always be elusive. There will be times of frustration because you can’t see the end. That’s because it’s not there. Don’t stress arriving, enjoy the journey.
