Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Godzilla Minus One

Godzilla has been terrorizing audiences since 1954 when he debuted in Godzilla. Now, in 2023, it feels like he’s returned to his roots in Godzilla Minus One.

Godzilla Minus One is a complicated movie with lots of themes. Guilt, shame, love, loss, triumph, forgiveness, and more are packed into the two-hour, five-minute runtime.

The film is set in the 1940s during and after World War Two. Kamikazee pilot, Koichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki), returns his plane to a Japanese military repair outpost. The problem? Shikishima’s plane wasn’t damaged. He was fleeing from the battle and didn’t want to die. He wanted to survive.

Shortly upon landing, the irradiated monster Godzilla appears, killing most of the other soldiers on the island. This leaves Shikishima with more shame.  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From The Live Action Lion King

I can’t tell you how excited I was to see the new, live-action Lion King movie. The Lion King was a favorite movie of mine and to see it brought to life seemed like a no-brainer.

Oh… how wrong I was.

Mufasa and Simba on a cliff

The latest Disney animated movie to be brought to life didn’t wow and engage like their previous effort, Aladdin. Instead, Pam and I sat bored in the theater watching this trainwreck of a movie.

The new Lion King felt uninspired and thrown together. Nothing truly caught my attention and I was disappointed because of this.

If you do go and watch the live-action Lion King, know you won’t be in for a great movie. You’ll be in for a great movie made into something mediocre.  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Aquaman

The DC movie universe has been hit or miss for quite some time. Leadership at DC and Warner Brothers must have taken notice as Aquaman and Wonder Woman has broken from the pack of new comic book movies and been enjoyable.

Aquaman tells the story of Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) as he steps into his role as the protector of Atlantis. We see the blossoming of his parents, Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and Tom Curry (Temeura Morrison), romance to his romance with Mera (Amber Heard).

The Aquaman movie was overall enjoyable and well-paced. You want to see a great comic book character brought to life? You will see it in Aquaman. You will also get a well-told story.

Realize All Leaders Can Fail

I think the biggest thing we can do when a leader fails is to remember that all leaders can fail. Even those you look up to the most.

When you put leadership failure into the perspective that it could easily have been you, you begin to look at the failed leader in a new light.

He’s you but in a different position. The failed leader made bad choices that led him to a place they never thought they’d be.

Each little step away from the truth leads further and further into a rabbit hole that’s hard to get out of.  Read more...
