You Must Be Yourself

Every leader has a big temptation in front of them. The temptation is whether to be true to who they are or to be who they think others want them to be.

The shocking truth is that the people you lead want you to be yourself, not some fake.

Why We Struggled Being Our True Selves

Let’s be honest here, being yourself is scary. I remember elementary school.

Kids would pick on me relentlessly. Whether it was the fact that I wore Hush Puppies or that I was a giant among my peers. The kids in my school picked on and bullied me.

The sad thing about the constant taunting was that I was being picked on for things that I couldn’t change.

My Biggest Struggle (And Probably Yours Too)

Being in a leadership position brings a whole slew of new problems. And one of those adds to my biggest struggle.

Truth be told, my struggle probably isn’t much different than yours. Especially if you’re a believer.

We all struggle

My Struggle

Do you want to know what I am constantly battling? Too bad, I’m going to tell you anyways.

I’m in a constant struggle with myself.

That’s right, I fight and struggle and rage against me, myself, and I.

Every day my Self rises within me. It tells me that I deserve more. My Self tells me that I am better than I am. It

And I have to constantly do battle with this inner feeling of entitlement.

That’s my struggle.

I feel like I’m entitled to things that I’m not.

The One Thing You Can’t Lose When You Fail

Failure is one thing we all face. It comes at us in our careers, our family, and our faith.

It pulls at us and tears us down. Telling us that we’re worthless now. That we won’t do anything of value.

Failure brings about lies and feelings of inadequacy.

But there’s one thing you can’t lose when you fail…

What Failure Tells Us

When we fail, we want to run and hide. To stick our heads in the sand like an ostrich. In all honesty, that makes us look silly.

Why do we want to do this?

Because failure lies to us. It says that we’ve screwed up beyond hope. We’re told that there’s no redeeming value in our lives.

The biggest lie failure tells us is that we’ve lost our identity.
