How To Create A Culture Of Innovation And Creativity

Innovation and creativity are hallmarks of a great organization. They know what they do well, think about what to do next, and then innovate to get there.

It’s not always easy. Sometimes, you stumble and struggle along the way. You may even wonder why you desired to be considered innovative and creative.

I think about this even as I type these words. I think about what I need to do to innovate and inspire you. I have to find the creativity within me to do so.

Sometimes, it’s easy to be creative. Other times, I start, stop, and start over again. However, I use a few tips and tricks to inspire the innovation needed to continue creating. These methods transfer over to business and life as well.

Finding Purpose And Meaning In Leadership

As a Christian leader, I believe everyone has a purpose and meaning for their lives. Everyone was created for something special in this world. In Ephesians 2:10, the Bible tells us that we are Christ’s workmanship. We are created in Christ Jesus for good works (purpose).

You and I… We were not created by accident. We were created for something.

While I believe this purpose and meaning comes from the lives we live, we can find purpose and meaning in the things that we do. Including the organizations and people we lead. There’s a purpose and meaning behind this!

Finding Purpose And Meaning In Leadership

It’s funny that I’m writing this article when I am. The morning I was writing this, I began to take a look back on my leadership and writing journey. I began to think of the people I started this journey with.

Making Difficult Decisions With Confidence And Integrity

You’re a leader. You have to make the difficult decisions within your organization. These are the decisions that weigh heavy on your conscious.

Some of these weighty decisions could be:

  • Whether or not to do rolling layoffs in the midst of an economic downturn
  • Releasing an employee for a moral or ethical failure
  • Closing the doors of your organization
  • Standing firm in your beliefs

Each of these decisions requires you to be bold, strong, and courageous. Each of these decisions can also hurt someone else. That’s what makes these decisions so weighty…

There’s a consequence behind the decision.

But…

As a leader, it’s your responsibility to make these tough decisions. You must search deep in your soul and choose the right actions to take.

Not everyone will like your decisions. You will have to live with them. But they’re yours to own.

Mentoring And Coaching: Developing Future Leaders

An essential part of leadership is training up the next generation of leaders. If you’ve been a part of an organization where a leader left and there was a lack of potential leaders in the organization, you found out how badly the organization suffered. You probably even saw a mass exodus of employees from the organization.

This is a great reason to begin training up future leaders. These are the leaders who will be there when the current generation of leaders are gone. They’ll also be the leaders who head out to other organizations to lead them well.

Mentoring And Coaching: Developing Future Leaders

But what does it take to mentor and coach upcoming leaders? That’s a good question. Another good question is whether mentoring and coaching are the same. Let’s look at that question first.

Overcoming Communication Barriers In Leadership And The Home

Have you ever been in a relationship or organization where communication was poor? You never knew how the other party felt or what changes were being made in the organization.

To you, it felt like chaos reigned supreme.

You felt infuriated. Maybe you felt uninformed. Or you felt that the other person didn’t care for you.

These are all valid feelings when communication is flowing correctly. Communication is the bedrock of any good relationship, business or personal. That’s why every great leader works on their communication.
