Will your marriage affect your leadership ability?

When you get married, your focus shifts from yourself to your spouse. It is one of the most important relationships that you will have. Your relationship with your spouse will also affect the quality of your leadership.

In EntreLeadership, Dave Ramsey talks about the spousal interview. During the hiring process Dave will require an interview with the spouse of the prospective employee. He does this to see if the prospect is married to ‘crazy.’ That is someone who makes life miserable, has a bad attitude, or is high maintenance.

Your spouse requires a lot of time and effort. Crazy spouses and bad relationships require even more time and effort.

If you have a crazy spouse it will drain on your leadership skills.

Nagging, bickering, and pettiness will drain your energy.

Your focus will be off. It will be on her and keeping her happy rather than leading to the best of your ability.  Read more...

Can you laugh in your marriage?

You hear the horror stories all the time. “My wife won’t let me go out with the guys tonight” or “The romance has stopped in our marriage.”

It is true, there are times when those words will be uttered by a spouse. But it comes with the territory. In marriage, it is a give and take.

Hearing those words can be a major let down. It might not be fun to stay at home or doing something you might not like with your spouse.

These are the times it is important to focus on the good times. The times that made you love them more. And the FUNNY times.

Book Review: This thing of ours: How faith saved my mafia marriage

This week we take a day to celebrate love, on the 14th it will be Valentine’s Day. During this week I will be posting on a subject that I have been wanting to for awhile, relationships. First up is a book review regarding a Mafia marriage.

A dancer named Cammy meets Michael Franzese. She soon falls in love and marries Michael. Little does she know that he has ties to the mafia.

This Thing of Ours: How Faith Saved My Mafia Marriage tells this story.

Cammy Franzese recounts her experience of meeting and marrying Michael. Book Review – How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

If you are a returning visitor, do not be alarmed. The blog has changed. I updated to the Standard Theme and cannot wait to see what it offers. If you are new to the site, I hope you will enjoy the look and the content of the site.

Now, lets dive into today’s content!

One of the most influential books I have read has to be How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. How To Win Friends and Influence People was originally published in 1936. Today, it is still highly regarded as a must read book for communicators.

How To Win Friends and Influence People has been reprinted many times. The copy I read was published in 1981.

With the help of Dale’s wife, Dorothy Carnegie, it has been revised to include more modern examples of people who have applied the principles in the book. If you find differences in my review from the book you have, this may be why.  Read more...
