How To Be A Writer: An Interview With Jeff Goins

I recently had the opportunity to sit down and chat with a friend that I’ve followed in the blogging world for quite some time. That friend is Jeff Goins of GoinsWriter.

He’s been an inspiration as I’ve watched him grow his audience to over 100,000 people. His journey has been amazing.

My interview with Jeff Goins

Today, I want to share with you the video of our interview and a transcript of what we talked about.

After you’re done viewing the video, I think you’ll have a new vision of what being a writer really is.

Jeff Goins Interview

Q1: Hey Jeff, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Jeff Goins: I am a writer who helps other writers. That’s probably the simplest definition of what I do. I write books and teach online courses helping other writers and creatives use online marketing to succeed.

Evolving In My Writing Craft Has Altered My Overall Outlook On Life

Throughout these past four months, I’ve experienced such a gratifying feeling due to the evolving nature of my writing craft, and my overall outlook on life.

For so long, I’ve had writer’s block. The only writing I did for a long while was writing about my day to day routine in my journal. Although I’ve done some writing for various other writing sites, for a long while, I had stopped submitting work, because my well of ideas for stories, poetry, etc…had run dry.

Then, back in October of last year, I got involved with a site that dealt with writing prompts to get the well of inspiration filled again. The writing prompts were done through the use of photographs, or a phrase. Through utilizing the tools allotted from the site, my memory was refreshed on how to properly write Haiku and Limerick poetry with the writing tips they provided. From October of 2014 through January 2015, I created a large body of work.

What You Do In The In-Between Matters

For a long time, adventure has called my name. I’ve been drawn to whitewater rafting, skydiving, ice climbing, and other adventurous activities.

My life tries to revolve around these fun and exciting trips. They seem to draw the most out of my life. They make me feel alive.

However, I’m being drawn into the in-between moments lately.

I wonder if you’re realizing the in-between matters just as much, if not more, than the big events in our lives.

What Is The In-Between?

You may be wondering what is the In-Between. I’ll try to explain it to you.

The In-Between is the time between adventures. When you’re really living life and not just a sound bite. It’s the down time. It’s the daily grind. It’s being.

That’s my definition.
