How To Become A Better Decision Maker

Decisions are a part of all of our lives. Even our furry companions make decisions. I know Lok, my Vizsla, does.

He can choose to listen to my commands. He can choose to obey and be rewarded. He can also choose whether to play, eat, sleep, etc…

Yet, while my dog can make a decision, I wouldn’t want him to lead me. I know you feel the same. You love your pet but you wouldn’t trust his decision making compacity to lead you, your family, or your organization.

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Hellboy 2019

The movie theater has been a great place for those who love comic book movies. Last week, theatergoers were treated to the DC Comics movie Shazam! In two weeks, audiences will be treated to the Avengers: Infinity War sequel Endgame, and this weekend saw the release of Dark Horse Comics Hellboy.

Hellboy is the 3rd Hellboy movie to be released in the theaters. The first two starred a man who nailed the look of Hellboy, Ron Perlman. Sadly, Perlman did not return for the latest entry in the Hellboy series as this is more of a reboot than a sequel.

The Hellboy movie is based upon the Mike Mignola comic books and graphic novels. Hellboy is stuck in a war between the supernatural and human worlds.

While I remember the original Hellboy movies to be a fun, fairly upbeat series of movies, the latest Hellboy movie takes a dark turn. It’s much darker and grittier than the previous movies. This will turn some people off.  Read more...

Why Great Leaders Extend Grace

I have never met a leader who didn’t need grace extended to them at one point or another. Every leader has failed at some point in their journey. Some harder than others.

I’ve, sadly, seen leaders who have committed some pretty heinous acts. They’ve verbally abused customers, cheated on their spouse, or misappropriated company funds. These leaders needed grace to overcome their past sins.

I’m not sure if you have ever committed any of these leadership faux pauxs. However, I know you’ve had missteps in your leadership. We all have. We’ve all made bad decisions. Because of this, we have needed someone to extend grace to us.

What The Pothole Kid From Muskegon Heights Can Teach Us About Leadership

You may have heard of a young man named Monte Scott. If you haven’t heard of Monte, you may have heard of him referred to by a different name: The Pothole Kid.

His nickname is a strange one. The Pothole Kid? Why would anyone want to be called that name? After hearing Monte’s story, I think you’ll understand. You may even want to carry the moniker as well.

Monte Scott’s Story

Monte is a 12-year old boy who lives in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. He’s your typical young man who goes to school, does his homework, plays with friends, and enjoys his video games.

March 27th was the day that changed everything. Monte’s school, Oakview Elementary School (also my elementary school, woot-woot!), had a half day. At first, everything was normal. He came home from school and began to play video games. Then a thought crossed his mind “I could be doing more. I’ve seen a problem in my city and I want to fix it.”  Read more...

Quotes And Leadership Lessons From Captive State

Captive State, directed by Rupert Wyatt, is a science fiction movie set in Chicago 10 years after an alien occupation. The citizens of Chicago (and the world) are following orders from their alien overlords. This soon begins to change as a Resistance rises up once more.

Starring John Goodman as William Mulligan, Ashton Sanders as Gabriel Drummond, Johnathan Majors as Rafe Drummond, and Vera Farmiga as Jane Doe, Captive State reminded a lot of M. Night Shyamalan’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, also starring John Goodman. This isn’t a bad feel for the movie. It also gives this film in the science fiction genre a different feel.
