Give A Gift That Will Matter

This is the gift table that my sister made.

Can you believe that Christmas is less than 3 weeks away? The holiday is fast approaching.

You have seen the ads telling you what you need. You need the latest fashion. Your kid needs the latest toy. Your wife needs a new piece of jewelry.

Do you really need it? Do they really need it? Probably not.

Within the week it will be added to another pile of junk in your home. Forgotten and wasted. Just more clutter in your home.

Instead, I would like to challenge you to give a gift that will last a lifetime.

I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.
— Maya Angelou

Begin looking for a person you can pour into.

  • A neighbor kid that needs a father figure
Take a child who needs guidance and give them a mentor to look up to. Show him the ropes of life. Tell him he can succeed. Let him know someone cares.By pouring into the child, you will make a lasting impact on his life. He will know that his life has value. You may change the course of his life.
  • A widow who could use a helping hand
Find a widow who may need help. Could you shovel her sidewalk? Change the oil in her car? Fix a leaky faucet?Helping her out may be the encouragement she needed. She now realizes that someone is willing to help with the things her husband used to do. You can not imagine the joy this will bring to her.
  • A single mother that is having trouble making ends meet
We all know of a single mother who is struggling. She may be working multiple jobs, late nights, little sleep.Offer to babysit her children. Cook a meal for her and her children. Work on her car.You will relieve some of the stress her situation has put on her. She will be able to spend more time with her children. Provide more food for them. Improve their lives.

Take time this Christmas season and see who you can give a lasting gift to. If you help out even one person this Christmas season, you will have changed a life.

Decide to give a gift that matters this season.

Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.
— Lao Tzu

PS: Speaking of gifts, Seth Godin of The Domino Project is giving away their latest Kindle book for free. It is called The Flinch by Julien Smith. Julien is the co-author of Trust Agents. I believe this will be a book you will want to read.
